HOW BIJON TURNED ONE PIECE OUTFITS INTO EVERYDAY FASHION
One Piece has one of the most recognisable casts in fiction.
Each member of the Straw Hat crew has a distinct identity shaped by their clothing, colours, abilities, personality and history. Even as their outfits change throughout the story, the characters remain immediately recognisable.
For the Pirates Collection, Bijon Projects explored how these identities could be translated into everyday fashion.
The objective was not to recreate costumes or place character artwork onto standard garments. Instead, we selected specific elements from Monkey D. Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Roronoa Zoro and Nico Robin, then reinterpreted them through outerwear, denim, knitwear and everyday silhouettes.
THE CAPTAIN FAUX LEATHER JACKET
The [Captain Faux Leather Jacket] is inspired by Monkey D. Luffy.
Its red colour connects immediately to Luffy, while the raised detail across the front references the scar on his chest.
Draped fabric across the back takes inspiration from his elasticity. The material gathers and falls differently from the structured body of the jacket, creating movement without directly illustrating his abilities.
A custom leather label at the back contains further references to Luffy and the Straw Hat crew.
Beyond these details, the overall feeling of the garment was equally important. The faux leather, strong colour and statement silhouette give it confidence and presence.
More than anything, it feels like a jacket made for a captain.
THE NAVIGATOR DENIM JORTS
The [Navigator Denim Jorts] are inspired by Nami.
Her tattoo is reinterpreted as large embroidery across the side of the jorts. Moving the symbol from her shoulder to the leg allowed it to become part of a completely different garment while remaining recognisable.
The relaxed denim silhouette also suits Nami’s confident and expressive style.
The reference is direct, but the garment does not depend on it. Even without knowing the inspiration, the embroidery remains a strong visual feature.
THE COOK KNIT SWEATER
The [Cook Knit Sweater] is inspired by Sanji.
Sanji has a more refined and composed style than many of the other Straw Hats. His tailored clothing reflects his confidence, precision and role as the crew’s cook.
The sweater takes inspiration from his appearance during the Enies Lobby arc and translates it through knitwear.
Rather than recreating his suit, the garment carries his polished identity through its shape, construction and knitted artwork. The result feels relaxed enough for everyday wear while retaining the elegance associated with Sanji.
THE SWORDSMAN TANK TOP
The [Swordsman Tank Top] is inspired by Roronoa Zoro.
Zoro’s visual identity is direct, physical and functional. His clothing allows movement and rarely needs excessive detail to communicate who he is.
The sleeveless silhouette reflects his physicality, while the use of green connects the garment to his established colour palette.
Compared with the more constructed pieces in the collection, the tank top is intentionally simple.
That restraint is part of the reference. Zoro does not need an elaborate garment to make his presence felt.
THE HISTORIAN REVERSIBLE DENIM VEST
The [Historian Reversible Denim Vest] draws from several aspects of Nico Robin.
The panel construction takes inspiration from her Enies Lobby appearance, translating the structure of her outfit into a denim vest rather than recreating it directly.
Floral lace is used as an homage to Robin’s Devil Fruit and the blooming visual language associated with her abilities.
The jaguar pattern references Jaguar D. Saul, one of the most important figures in Robin’s past and a central part of the story of Ohara.
Its reversible construction allows the garment to carry several parts of Robin’s identity within one piece. Certain references become more visible depending on how the vest is worn.
That layered approach reflects Robin herself. She is composed and elegant, but much of her character is shaped by a history that is gradually revealed.
ONE PIECE INSPIRED FASHION BEYOND COSTUMES
The Pirates Collection explores how One Piece inspired clothing can exist beyond costume recreations and conventional character merchandise.
Some references are immediately recognisable. Others are hidden within the fabric, panelling or construction of the garment.
The clothing should work before the reference is explained.
Recognising the fictional inspiration simply reveals another layer beneath the design.
